Senators to Scrutinize Foreign Students in Immigration Debates
I’m all for tighter national security after the bombings in Boston last month, but stricter regulation of foreign students is a misdirection of blame on the part of Sen. Grassley and colleagues. Yes, the Tsarnaevs were college students, and yes, they were not of American origin, but they were legally naturalized American citizens through their parents, and not through the same process that international students undergo. I just hope that future opportunities for foreign students seeking higher education in the US are not compromised by such amendments when the final version of the bill is passed.

I don’t need you to “tolerate” me. I don’t want you to merely put up with my presence. All I ask, all I have ever asked, is to be treated as a human being, that bigoted jingoism is not injected into every minute facet my life, that there remains at least the illusion of decency.
Reality check, ignorant native-born Americans: the people of color you marginalize and discriminate against have to work harder to prove they are American every day, so their allegiance to the Flag actually means more than your flagrant jingoism and lazy sense of patriotism.
